Ljubljana
Is one of the most beautiful capitals in Europe and it is often compared to Prague, but without the endless coach loads of tourists. It is a beautiful blend of medieval heritages with many beautiful Renaissance, baroque and Art Nouveau buildings and despite being the countrys largest city it is easy to explore the attractions on foot.
The "old town" district sits along the banks of the Ljubljana River and is the main attraction for its visitors. The popular MUNICIPAL MUSEUM with its vast collection of local Roman artefacts makes for an interesting visit. The area is also a maze of vibrant bars, fine restaurants, interesting museums and a range of excellent shops. Here you can sit along the banks of the River sipping fine wine just watching the world float by. Ljubljana is also home to beautiful medieval castle, which like its larger Czech cousin sits atop of a steep hill. Despite it being small it is still well worth a visit and offers the photographer some excellent views out over the city.
But the city is also very cosmopolitan with many beautiful parks, friendly people and a vibrant social scene. Because of Ljubljana's location is offers its visitors a good base from which to explore this beautiful country.

It stands on the edge of the beautiful TRIGLAV NATIONAL PARK, which offers its visitors some of the most stunning scenery in Europe. The Pohorje Region
Travellers are drawn to this region for its picture post card beauty. The area is home to vast mountains, lakes, pretty castles, endless hiking trails, nature reserves, fine vineyards, lush forests and the winter ski slopes.
The region is also home to some interesting towns such as Maribor which is the cultural centre of the region with its opera & theatre scene and it is home a fine university as well as the popular thermal spa, the wintersports facilities of the Snow Stadium and the popular Adrenalin Park. All this and it is home to countless wine road & vineyards where some of the finest wines the country can be found. Another Popular destination is Slovenias oldest city of Ptuj with its pretty castle, the countries oldest wine cellar and an excellent thermal spa resort. Carniola - Kranj & Kamniske - Savinske Alps Region
The district is home to many interesting towns & cities that link the past to the present. Such as the medieval town of Skofja Loka with its old castles, churches and galleries. The picturesque town of Kamnik is popular because of its beautiful scenery and Mali grad Castle with its beautiful chapel. Kranj is home to the pretty Khislstein Castle & Gorenjska Museum.

Dolenjska & Bela Krajina
A very picturesque region of the country where lush winegrowing hills, pretty churches, castles, ancient monasteries and mighty forests typify this region of Slovenia. The region has many beautiful forest education trails one such one links the stylish Renaissance Tujrak Castle to the interesting Trubar Homestead. Visitors should also visit the primeval forest reserve at Kocevski Rog where can explore the caves or relax beside a spring filed lake or the Rinza River. Finally we recommend that every visitor takes time out to visit the Kostelsko region, where Kostel Castle invites visitors to explore this mysterious region where the Kolpa River canyon and the Nezica waterfalls meet. The Krka River flows south to Zuzemberk, which boasts of one of the countries most beautiful castles. The river also leads its visitors to the interesting city of Novo Mest. It sits on 7 hills and is full of cultural, historical and religious monuments. The town of Ribnica attracts many visitors with its castle, and ethnological museum.

Slovenian Wine Districts
Slovenia is home to many excellent vineyards set in 14 districts and has been making some excellent wines for hundreds of years and now produces some world-renowned vintages. We recommend that any visitor wishing to sample and hopefully buy some excellent wines visit the following areas, as these have become the most popular.
The Haloze Hills search from the town of Ptuj down to the Croatian border. Visitors can take a gentle stroll through sleepy fields of sunflowers past the pretty Bori Castle before reaching the vineyards where they can sample some excellent white wines. The districts of Jeruzalem Lkjutomer wine road stretches for 11miles and is dotted with cellars and restaurants where travellers can sample the local wines.
The Maribor encompasses Kamnica, Kalvarija, Mestni, Vrh, the Meje Hill and Malecnik. We recommend that travellers visit the Vinag wine cellar, which is one of the largest in Europe. But the entire region offers travellers many smaller wine cellars, restaurants and the wine shops on Meje Hill are especially good.
Pomurje
The regions main attraction are the various thermal health resorts with some like the Radenci Health resort dating back over 100 years. But it is also known for its excellent wines especially of the sparkling white variety. The Mura River offers its visitors a peaceful retreat with its floating mills, rolling hills and open green fields. The region has several interesting cities and towns. These include Morska Sobota which is the largest city in the region with the Renaissance Sobota Castle with its interesting museum which sits hidden away in lush forests of oak trees and the nearby Rakican Manor offers its visitors a vast wine cellar and equestrian center. The large town of Grad is one of the largest in the country it is also home to a large castle with extensive gardens. Finally there is the city of Selc with its Roman rotunda.

Most visits to SLovakia are trouble free and there is no recent history of terrorism in Slovenia.
But Slovenia shares with the rest of the world, including the UK, a risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks. You should therefore be vigilant in public places, including tourist sites Sensible precautions should be taken when carrying money in busy tourist areas.
Carry a copy of your passport at all times as a form of identification and all travellers should ensure that their passports are in a presentable state, as worn or damaged passports may cause questions.
An international driving licence is required for all visitors planning to drive; a Slovenian driving licence becomes obligatory after six months. Heavy, on-the-spot fines are in place for traffic offences and jaywalking.
